Georg Büldt studied physics at the Technical University Berlin and he did his PhD in Physical Chemistry at the University of Mainz. From 1993 to 2011 Georg Büldt was a director at the Institute of Complex Systems (ICS) of the Research Center Jülich, (ICS-5: Molecular Biophysics). Since 2011 he is a Director of the Laboratory of Advanced Studies of Membrane Proteins at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT). Research interests: Membrane proteins and proteins of signal amplification cascades; mechanisms for the transport of protons and signals across membranes; protein folding; crystal structures of intermediate states in the working cycle of proteins; inelastic neutron scattering on equilibrium fluctuations in proteins, single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy. Highlights of his research were published in six Nature articles.
