Antti received his PhD from MIT, and spent three years at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. He then joined the faculty of Ohio State University, and spent time as visiting professor at University of California at Berkeley. Subsequently he divided his time between Helsinki University and CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research inGeneve before moving to Uppsala. Antti Niemi is a chaired professor of theoretical physics in Sweden (affiliated with Uppsala University) and a Directeur de Recherche at CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research) in France. He has worked on a variety of areas in theoretical physics from quantum field theory to classical solitons. His research has covered most aspects of mathematical and theoretical physics, and presently he works on fundamental physics of living matter. Professor Niemi is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. In 1994, he was awarded the Goran Gustafsson Prize by the Royal Society of Sciences of Sweden. Antti has published over 150 scientific papers on a range of topics.
